Logan’s Team
Story
We’re proud to be taking part in Epilepsy WA’s annual Purple Walk 4 Epilepsy WA & Family Fun Day on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at Curtin University. We’re fundraising for a cause that means a great deal to us, and we’d love your support.
Logan was a healthy and happy 8-month-old when things changed. Logan contracted a strand of pneumococcal meningitis not covered by the vaccination and this was the start of our introduction to the world of epilepsy.
During the 5 months we spent living at PCH and letting Logan’s brain recover from several meningitis related operations, we were yet to learn about the true extent Logan’s seizures.
A couple weeks into life, at home and a physiotherapist at PCH both noted that Logan appeared to have infantile spasms. We had ruled that out previously with an EEG (and several sighs of relief from the doctors at the time) but it turned out that, that was to be the start of our epilepsy journey.
Treating Logan’s epilepsy feels like a never ending game of whack-o-mole, just as we find an answer for one type of seizure, a new type pops up, and we start all over again with trying to find the right mix of medications.
This part of Logan’s journey has been by far the most difficult and frustrating as each step has been a hard battle trying to get answers/treatment and it would be good to know that one day, the battles won’t be as big for those that have to be on this path.
Epilepsy WA has been important to us as we try to support Logan through learning as well as a community that understands the struggles. We love that there is an aim to remove the stigma attached to those with epilepsy and allowing people to live life to its full potential. We hope to contribute to this and help make some sense of how we can leave a positive impact as we travel this road.”
Join us and many other families walking a similar path at our Purple Walk 4 Epilepsy WA & Family Fun Day. The walk takes place on an accessible, 1km paved loop and you can do as many or as few laps as you like. There will be lots of family entertainment and live music to keep you entertained with a facepainter, balloon artist, lawn games, merchandise, raffle, food trucks and much more!
Epilepsy WA
Since 1963, Epilepsy WA has been tirelessly raising awareness and providing vital information and support to West Australians living with epilepsy, their families, and carers. There are over 30,000 West Australians currently living with epilepsy. Epilepsy is one of the most common, yet often misunderstood, neurological conditions, affecting up to 1 in 25 people, whilst 1 in 10 of us will have a seizure in our lifetime. Epilepsy WA help those living with epilepsy by providing a range of support services and we constantly strive to bring epilepsy out of the shadows and reduce stigma. With your help, we will continue to do so for another 60 years and more! We rely heavily on the support of the community to help us continue offering vital support services to the WA community. Visit our website to learn more about our services and supports. We are the only WA based epilepsy association, exclusively servicing WA. We are in WA, for WA. Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today and help us support the 30,000 West Australians living with epilepsy. Every dollar donated in WA, stays in WA.
